A List of Stocks Making New 6-Month Highs

Why monitor new highs?  Consider the following.  When traders believe their indicators suggest a stock is about to break through a line of resistance some will act in anticipation of the event (buying pressure will increase).  Other traders will buy when they notice, even before the breakout, that the volume increases on price increases and diminishes on price declines.  When a stock actually breaks to the upside through resistance, other traders will notice and buy, causing the price and volume to surge.  These conditions often precede the beginning of a significant price move.  Whenever a stock starts a new trend, it draws attention.  Stocks that gather sufficient attention will surge.  Stocks making new highs are making those new highs for a reason.  Sometimes a stock will get only temporary attention.  However, when a stock hits a new high, it has p[robably been geting continuing attention, and it is not as likely to fizzle out as quickly as some stocks that advance simply because they were named in a financial magazine article.

A stock breaks through various levels of resistance because buyers believe the stock is cheap at current prices.  They would not think that unless the company has created an exciting new product, has made a discovery, has developed a cure, has greater profit than previously anticipated, or is expected to make a lot of money relatively soon.  New highs are driven by enthusiasm about a company's prospects.  We have chosen to focus on new 6-month highs, because a stock that was higher one or more years ago is still of interest if it has not been this high for at least 6 months.  Also, stocks making 1-year highs or all-time highs will be making new 6-month highs.  This approach gives us a wider selection from which to choose.  If the list were focused only on stocks reaching new highs since they were first listed, our list would include a much higher percentage of newly traded stocks of financially weak companies.  We prefer to see the wider selection this approach provides.

For subscribers, we list the stocks making new highs and rank them according to the magnitude of their surge in volume.  The subscriber lists consist of 50 stocks that have made a new high AND that have the greatest 1-day surge in volume.  The column "1-day Vol %" shows the percentage change in volume since the day before the date posted on the report.  A new list is generated for subscribers every day.  The following is an showing what our reports look like.
